Department of English Communication

The department emphasizes the development of communicative ability in English, along with a good basic understanding of the workings of international society, as vital preparation for the challenges that students will face after graduation.

The first two years of the program focus on intensive language study, with one half of the second year spent at Canada's University of Lethbridge, where, after additional language training, students can enroll in regular university classes. Alternatively, students may choose to spend the latter half of their second year studying English at Shih Chien University in Taiwan. Returning to Tokyo for their final two years, students continue to participate in seminars taught in English at an advanced level on such areas as intercultural communication, international economy, and linguistics, literature and pop culture, and translation studies. Their knowledge of their specific area of interest is strengthened by courses taught in Japanese.
